Jimmy Hoffa….Here we go again!

It’s the single most significant unsolved mystery in the history of Detroit.  The disappearance of Teamster boss Jimmy Hoffa on July 30th 1975, from the  Machus Red Fox restaurant in Bloomfield Township Michigan.

The last time I wrote about this story was just 16 short months ago.  That’s when the FBI and local authorities had a tip that Hoffa might be buried  under a slab of concrete at a home in Roseville.  That tip, like dozens of others, proved to be a dead end. (No pun intended)

Since Hoffa’s disappearance, there have been many theories about what happened him.  Some suggested he was buried under the new construction of I-696, under Giants Stadium in New Jersey or beneath Detroit’s Renaissance Center.  More recently. authorities have excavated a farm in Hartland and under a horse barn in Milford.

Now…..comes Tony Zerilli, a reputed gangster and an alleged underboss of Detroit’s biggest crime family, who claims the former Teamster’s boss was buried in a field in suburban Detroit about 20 miles north of where Hoffa was allegedly abducted.

The 85 year old Zerilli told NBC TV in New York he wanted to set the record straight about his life and what happened to Hoffa.  Authorities have have said that Zerilli was one a few people who would be in a position to know truth about Hoffa’s disappearance and was always on the short list of people they wanted to talk to about the case.  For the record, claims he had nothing to do with the disapearance and that he is NOT a member of the Mafia.

Kevin Dietz, a reporter for NBC’s Detroit affilliate WDIV-TV,  says the station will disclose where Zerilli said the body is buried during a newscast scheduled for tonight.  In his reporting of the story last night, Dietz, says that while the FBI is very interested, the owner of the property is not and will require the agency to obtain a subpoena to search the property.  He suggested the FBI might consider a flyover of the area with special equipment that could possibly give the agency enough evidence to obtain the search warrant.

Here’s the rub…..Zerilli is broke and is looking to peddle a book about his life and is looking for a big payday.  Stay tuned!
